How To Improve In Reading Comprehension Section of CAT?

In the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension section, it is expected that 40%-50% part of the section will be covered by RC. Last year, the candidates were surprised as the Reading Comprehension was easy to read both in terms of language and the topic they belonged to. There were three passages with 6 Qs each and two, with 3 Qs each. The relative ease of reading the passages was compensated for by the increased level of difficulty in the ‘choices’ given in the questions. The answer options were very close to each, hence, confusing the candidates on choosing the correct option.

The scoring in the Reading Comprehension section depends on:

  1. Good reading speed
  2. Ability to understand and retain the content
  3. Analyse the details and understand the tone of the writer

The Second and Third point can be improved by using the books which are given in the table above. However, reading speed can only be improved by reading a lot of books. Many students avoid this step as reading books is not their forte. But you should understand that this helps you in a long run.
