CAT 2018 is the Common Admission Test for studying the management courses in the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and almost all other B-Schools. CAT Eligibility – Educational Qualification
Candidate must require to hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification awarded by any university or educational institution incorporated by the Act of Parliament or State Legislature of India or declared to be a deemed university or attain the equivalent qualification under the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
Candidates appearing for the final year Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification and also those who have completed the degree requirements and awaiting for the results can also apply. If the candidate selected, he/she will be allowed for the admission only on the submission of the certificate from the principal/Registrar of University stating that the candidate completed all the requirements of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
Percentage of marks: The requirement of the percentage of marks will be different for different categories. You can check in details from the below mentioned details:
- General category: The candidates belonging to general category have to possess minimum 50% marks or equivalent in the desired qualification.
- SC/ ST/ PwD Category: The candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PwD category have to possess minimum 45% marks in the desired qualification.
For grades / CGPA, conversion is made on the basis of the procedure certified by the university / educational Institutions. If the University confirms that there is no scheme of the conversion of the equivalent marks then the equivalent marks are obtained by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum CGPA and the result is multiplied by 100.
Number of Attempts and CAT Eligibility Age Limit
There will be unlimited attempts provided to the CAT aspirants. Also, there will be no restriction in the upper age of the candidate as per the latest CAT eligibility age limit.
IIM Selection Process
After getting good percentile in the CAT 2018 examination, the process of admission didn’t stop here. Candidates have to appear for the different levels. Each IIM have their independent admission procedure which needs to be followed by the candidate.
The Other levels may include the following rounds:
GD / Screening: The candidates are scored on the basis of their personal performance among the different candidates. You will be scored on the basis of your communication capability.
WAT: Written Ability Test round is basically tests your presence of mind, clarity of thought, quality of expression, general awareness. You will be required to write an essay (300-400) words. The time limit may vary to different IIMs.
PI: Personal Interview will be the round in order to determine your skills and confidence level. At every stage you will be scored on the basis of your performance.
Apart, from all these, you will also be scored on the basis of the previous academic performance for CAT Eligibility 12th Marks, relevant work experience, your category , gender and many more. On the basis of all these factors the list of the shortlisted candidates will prepared.
Note: The weightage score for each and every stage after clearing CAT will be different for different IIMs.

Seat distribution for SC/ ST

- 15% of seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste(SC ), 7.5% of seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes and 27% of seats are reserved for the other backward classes (OBCs).
- As per the rights of the Person with Disability Act,2016 5% of seats are reserved for the persons with Benchmark Disabilities.
Documents Required for SC/ ST
- A copy of the SC / ST / NC-OBC / PWD certificate(s) must be uploaded at the time of CAT Application registration.
- The SC / ST / NC-OBC / PWD certificate(s) must be shown and a photocopy should be submitted at the time of interviews. Moreover, the certificate(s) must be submitted at the time of joining the programmes of any of the IIMs.
