As the official CAT Answer Key is available, candidates can easily calculate the score and accuracy in the exam. CAT 2018 Percentile Predictor calculates the estimated percentile of a candidate on the basis of correct and incorrect questions attempted in the exam. The process followed by IIM for normalization is similar to other National level exams like GATE. Check your CAT Percentile Predictor 2018 in the article below.

How IIMs Calculate the CAT 2018 Percentile?
The process to calculate the percentile is quite intensive. This year, there was a difference in the difficulty of the 2 slots. So, it is highly expected that the normalization process will take place.
Raw Score – In simple terms, the raw score is the marks calculated according to the marking scheme of the exam.
Normalization – It adjusts the raw scores according to accuracy, level of difficulty, marks allotment of questions in the exam etc.
Scaled Score – After the normalization process, the final scores are known as scaled scores which converts into the final percentile.
How percentile is calculated in CAT 2018?
Given 2000 students appeared for the exam and you score 99%ile.
So, you must have got the rank [(99*2000)/100] = 1980; meaning that there are 20 students which have scores more than you.
How Process of Normalization takes place in CAT 2018?
The actual process has not been revealed by IIMs. Still, let’s take an example slot 1 is difficult than slot 2. Even after the raw score calculation, average marks of slot 1 is 100 and slot 2 is 110. So, to normalize the marks to adjust the difficulty level, marks of the slot 1 students will be multiplied by 1.1 (110/100). So, a candidate getting 122 marks in slot 2 will have final scaled score 134.2.
Factors Affecting Normalization Process
There are some factors which might are considered in the normalization process.
- Score of the top scorer
- Percentile of top or lowest 10% students
- Mean, Median, and standard of candidates’ marks
- Section wise scores in each slot
- Score Distribution
Normally, the normalization process was quite criticized by students especially in CAT exam last year, when there was a major difference between candidates’ expected score and scales scores. Many students even demand to publish their actual scores of the exam. Though no response was given by IIM Lucknow for this demand of the candidates. Even one student in a tweet said he got 120 expected score according to answer key but his scaled score was 67.
CAT 2018 Answer Key
The CAT 2018 official answer key is now available. IIM releases the official answer key for the exam so that students can crosscheck the answers. Even if there are any errors, then the key is open for objection. Using the answer key helps to get the more precise expected percentile in the exam. Though scores on the final result may vary after the normalization process.
The CAT 2018 Answer Key contains the right of all the questions. It releases only on the official website of CAT in the Student Login. The answer key PDF consists of a correct option against each question. In order to calculate the marks, candidates must know that there is an addition of 3 marks for each correct option. Importantly, there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer. There is no negative marking for wrong Non-MCQ type questions.
