Every B-school along with IIMs have its own selection criteria and cut-off list. All the things will be taken into account while considering the candidate for the seat. His/her CAT 2018 score, UG percentage, 12th and 10th percentage, working experience, extra curricular activities will be considered. Depending on the selection candidates will then be call for group discussion and personal interview rounds also known as GDPI rounds.

Based on all these things and cumulative score final merit list of each institute is prepared.

The 3 rounds of selection procedure of CAT 2018 are:

  1. Written Test- Candidate has to write on one or more topics a brief essay in the time duration of 15-45 minutes.
  2. Group Discussion- A round is held where 8-10 candidates are given a particular topic and they have to discuss on it. This is to check the candidates group dynamics.
  3. Personal Interview- In this round candidate has to present himself/herself before the panel of 4-8 interviewers. This is a final round and is held to check the candidates educational qualification, hobbies, interests and work experience.

How is CAT Percentile Calculated?

CAT 2018 percentile

CAT percentile is the basic idea to let a candidate know the number of students who scored less than him/her. It also decides the rank of applicant for the admission of management course in IIMs and top B-schools in India compared with other candidates who appeared for the same MBA/ PGDM entrance test.

The overall score for the exam is calculated and the percentile is allocated on the basis of it by following a simple calculation method.

Formula to Calculate CAT percentile:

CAT Percentile = [1 – (Your Rank in CAT 2018/Total Number of Candidates taking CAT 2018)] * 100

Let’s us understand this with an example:

Suppose a candidate got 3000 rank in CAT 2018 out of 100000 students who appeared for the exam. In this case percentile will be calculated as:

CAT 2018 Percentile= [1- (3000/100000)]*100= 99.7 percentile

This indicates that 99.7 percent of students  who appeared for the exam are below you. No one can get 100 percentile as it indicates the percentage of candidates below him/her including himself/herself. Moreover, percentile is calculated upto 3 decimal places and then rounded off to the nearest possible decimal.

CAT 2018 Expected Cut Off

CAT 2018 cut off
