MAT 2018 September session will start soon. Candidates aspiring to take admission in the academic session 2019 must start their preparation as soon as possible. Since MAT will assess on the basis of your aptitude, it is required that you polish your skills in time. So, it is important to have an effective strategy to crack the exam. About MAT:   All the examinations of MAT take place in online and offline mode under the conducting body AIMA. Since 1998, it is conducting exams to screen candidates to take admission in one of the B-schools covering under it. It is an objective type test designed and developed to ascertain the aptitude of the candidates to undergo Post Graduate Programme in Management.  It is a direct ticket to secure a seat in 600 colleges across India. All MIs participating in MAT are either AICTE, DEC approved University College and Departments.

How to prepare for MAT September 2018?

Before starting your preparation you must know the exam pattern of the examination. You all must be preparing for other exams as well like CAT/ XAT/ NMAT etc. So, you don’t have to put extra efforts in the preparation of this exam. In the exam, it is important to focus on your accuracy along with your speed. Moreover, the exam will contain multiple choice questions of four options each. There will be total 200 question with a maximum duration of 150 minutes.

Marking Scheme: 1 mark awarded for each correct question

Negative Marking: 0.25 mark for every incorrect answer

Mode of Examination: Pen & Paper based and Computer-based

Language of Test:  The exam will conduct in English only.

#1 Right Books

It is necessary that you have the right books before starting your preparation. Moreover, practicing daily is the key to any exam. So, give equal time to each section and revise the weak topics daily.

#2 Time Management

Make a proper timetable for your studies. If you want to devote even four hours a day, then do it anyhow. Remember consistency should be maintained. If you manage your time well, then you will see progress in your learning level automatically.

#3 Practice as much you can

Solving the practice sets is important for any exam especially for the quant section. You can master it once you how to tackle a question, this will come naturally to you know. So solve atleast 20-30 questions of quant related to different topics every day. Memorise tables, common cube roots, square roots, conversions from percent to fraction, and vice-versa to enhance speed while maintaining accuracy. First, start attempting question from traditional methods. As you get familiar start applying tricks and shortcuts. Moreover, you can directly find answers from options only.

#4 Reading and Reading

To crack the English section reading is the key. Try to read the diversity of sources as possible. Read blogs, articles, newspaper, and articles. Endeavor to grab the gist of the piece. Find the difficult words and write it in a separate diary. It will help to acquire speed and precision, two key skills needed to do well in English section. For the specific RC section, practice to form a story in your mind such that whenever you encounter a question you will know in which para answer lies.

#5 Improve your general awareness

For any exam, it is important to improve your general awareness. If not in the entrance test, then it will be required during GDPI rounds. So, keep a habit of newspapers daily. Just don’t read make notes of important events. Such that it will help you surmise them before examination day or interview. Refer sites like IN SHORTS, Gktoday to keep track of the latest news. You can also listen to news channels or interesting youtube channels. Regularly solve as many sample papers as possible.

#6 Enhance your speed and accuracy

Over a period of time, it is important to increase your speed along with accuracy. First of all, solve papers subject-wise in a fix time period. After that, solve an entire model paper or a previous paper to see if you can finish in time. Once you know how to attempt question you will know which questions are worth attempting and less error-prone. Don’t compromise on accuracy in the advent of attempting more questions.

#7 Crash courses

If you are not enough confident, then you can also enroll yourself in a crash course of some good institute. You can also enroll yourself in online crash courses or just test series. These will help you get more familiar with the exam pattern. The group discussion exercises will help to develop speaking prowess and provides useful information also. Moreover, the competitive atmosphere of an institute will motivate you to improve yourself.
