What Is a CAT exam?

The Common Admission Test or CAT is a national level entrance test which is held by various IIMs on a rotational basis. The score for CAT is used for admission in MBA and other management programs in 20 IIMs and over 200 B-schools. This exam is mandatory for those who want to get admission in the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs).

Changes To Expect For NTA CAT 2019

The possibility of NTA conducting CAT 2018 is 50-50. However, if the NTA conducts CAT 2019, there are few things it shall not change:

  • Application fee shall remain same as last year
  • Syllabus for the entrance exam
  • Language of the exam
  • Exam Pattern

The basic purpose of forming NTA was that the major exams which are being held by CBSE, AICTE and other bodies could be handed over to it. In all honesty, CBSE, AICTE and the other bodies have been conducting top entrance tests and competitive entrance exams and is all burdened up. So, on the part of the Govt. this is a good move to bring NTA and help the other authorities.

Why Can NTA Not Conduct CAT 2019?

As said earlier that there is 50% chance that NTA may not conduct CAT 2019. There is a logical reason behind this. CBSE and AICTE have been conducting various other national entrance tests and were burdened up. Moreover, CBSE is a national level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by Union Government of India, and AICTE is the statutory body and a national-level council for technical education, under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development. Got it? Both are Govt bodies, whereas, IIM is a management institution which works independently.

Moreover, IIM has been conducting CAT exam with ease all these years and perhaps can handle it further more years to come. So, the chances of NTA taking over CAT exam is dim and honestly none. However, even if it takes over not many changes can be expected as CAT exam has been evolved over the years by the IIMs.
