XAT 2018 Results Scaling and Normalization
Usually, XAT scores/percentile are not scaled because exam takes place on a single day. But this time the exam took place on two days, albeit the second day is witnessing a smaller number of test takers.
The officials did not confirm whether or not scaling or normalization for XAT 2018 results was done. But, now that result is out we can see that there was no normalization.
Calculation of Percentile
|XAT Percentile =||[1 – (Your Rank in XAT 2019/Total Number of Candidates taking XAT 2019)] * 100|
Let’s us understand this with an example:
Suppose a candidate got 500 rank in XAT 2018 out of 35000 applicants who wrote the exam. So now the percentile will be calculated as:
XAT 2018 Percentile= [1- (500/35000)]*100= 98.57 percentile
This shows us that 98.57 percent of students who appeared for the test have scored fewer marks than you. You should know that no one scores 100 percentile. As calculating the percentile depicts the total number of applicants who are below you, including yourself.
You should also remember that no one gets negative percentile as the last candidate cannot be zero as per the calculation formula for percentile.
Score vs Percentile
An analysis of score vs percentile mapping for XAT is helpful for those waiting for the result and also those who will appear for XAT 2019. At the same time, it is prudent to consider that XLRI does not officially release any data on this. Nevertheless, those who have been following XAT exam for quite some time now can vouch for the following stats.
